Tanya Houghton is a certified professional coach to athletes in all the disciplines of the Triathlon and/or Xterra. She works with the beginner through the advanced athlete, on or off road. Tanya’s performance training is unique and ambitious – she concentrates on quality verses quantity; emphasizing variety and promoting exercise efficiency. She can provide expert coaching with form/technique, stroke analysis, base building, pace training, strength training, proper nutrition, mental training, goal planning and race planning and evaluation. Tanya believes consistency, recovery, and the right attitude are the keys to success. Whether you are new to your sport of choice, or are striving to improve your techniques and training methods trying to attain a new PR, Tanya can help you achieve your goals.
Tanya has established herself as a dedicated, hard-working competitor in the sport of Triathlon. Her preparation and determination have served her well. She raced her first triathlon in the summer of 2008 and surprised herself by winning 3rd place overall female. That experience immediately hooked her to the sport, and she continued to compete and climb the rankings, ending her first full season of racing in 2009 winning her age group in the North Carolina Triathlon Series, placing 1st Female Overall in the TrySports Triathlon Series, 18th position age group in the world (USAT rankings) and earning the title of All American with Honors. To top the season off she finished her first Ironman in Florida at 10:22:29, placing her 2nd place age group and 7th place overall non-professional. This earned her a slot to the 2010 Ironman World Championships Kona, Hawaii.
In 2010 she continued to build on her previous accomplishments, winning the Open Masters title for the Inside/Out Sports North Carolina Triathlon Series and 8th place age group finish at Ironman World Championships Kona, HI with a time of 10:44:55. She then went on to compete in Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater FL. winning a 3rd place podium finish at 4:44:22.
During 2011, she continued her focused training and racing, qualifying and competing once again for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii! On her way to qualifying, Tanya placed 2nd in her age group (AG) and 5th overall (OA) at Ironman Texas, 1st AG and 5th OA at Ironman Muncie, and placed 2nd overall in the Inside-Out Sports North Carolina Triathlon Series. Her dedication paid off as she ended the in 7th place in the USAT final rankings, earning All American Honors!!
For 2012, Tanya is targeting the Ironman US Championships NY, Ironman Cozumel, Ironman Eagleman 70.3 and Ironman Augusta 70.3 races, as well as trying her hand at the Xterra Hickory Knob off-road triathlon. In her first foray into the Xterra world, she was able to secure the top spot of all women, taking 1st place overall in the women, and 21st overall!
